Subject: [ia-bird] Grammer Grove hawk watch Wednesday
Raptor numbers for Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 9 am until 2 pm -- 576

Observers: Mark Proescholdt, Ken Gregory, Larry and Diana Pesek

19 Turkey Vultures
7 Bald Eagles
9 Sharp-shinned Hawks
2 Cooper's Hawks
529 Broad-winged Hawks
10 Red-tailed Hawks

Total Broad-wingeds season-to-date: 4335, smashing the previous fall season records
Total raptors season-to-date: 5003

The Broad-wingeds mostly came over in two large kettles -- one early on in the 9-10 am hour of 300+ and one more kettle after 1 pm of 200+.

Other birds moving over the area today were AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS and FRANKLIN'S GULLS.
