Subject: Quivira report 25 September 2017
Quite an unbelievable change: it has been raining hard almost all day here at Quivira. Those who have visited here in the last month or so will hardly recognize the Refuge, as even by late morning the flats along NE 170th, and many small wetlands, were already showing good quantities of standing water. Roughly 2 inches have fallen as of 3:30, with much more apparently on the way.

The Reddish Egret was still present, along with huge numbers of egrets and shorebirds all along the Wildlife Drive (REEG = northwest corner of Big Salt Marsh).

Construction note: beginning this week, work on replacing the Observation Tower at the south end of Little Salt Marsh will proceed. The work will take up to 3 weeks, with the entrance road to the Tower being closed to vehicle traffic during this time. Access to the LSM photo blind would best be done on foot from the Kids' Fishing Pond.
