Subject: [SFBirds] Vesper sparrow and presidio migrants
Put in a serious Rare Bird Roundup effort today in the presidio for 105 spp total. 9 spp sparrow, with the rarest bird a vesper sparrow in Tennessee hollow around 930am. Specifically the end of quarry road in the old decommissioned ball field, behind the residences now a weedy lot. It was alone, flushed from the ground into the eucs. Nice clean bib, white belly, eyering etc. looked this afternoon with Sam Saffron but it was busy with dogs and people.
A total of 4 chipping sparrows, most in the very productive, newly restored, weedy fields of Tennessee hollow. *lots of seed and sparrows here*
A First year white throated sparrow was behind building 1227 at ft Scott. Several golden-crowned today as well.
8.5 spp. Of warbler including two Nashville (one at the vesper sparrow) and what appeared to be a hermit X bt grey hybrid At mt lake park. Back side, at the bottom of the golf course maintenance gate in cypress.
Other birds of note: bg gnatcatcher, osprey, w meadowlarks, willow fly, perched barn owl, -ft Scott
No ID empid- community garden, dead pine (whitting, round eyering, short wing projection, white throat, greyish bird- least?)
Local Red crossbill, Rb nuthatches- 1, ww2 monument
Acorn woodpecker-presidio cemetery
A very good dawn push with waves of common migrants all around by the coastal bluffs with birds moving east.
Finally a Fishing buddy just had two barn owls from his house tonight right below golden gate heights park, the one on lake st still here too.
