Thank you for contacting me and sharing your concerns regarding access to Patapsco Valley State Park via Henryton Road. You will be happy to hear that I have asked the Bureau of Traffic Engineering to modify the signs so that they restrict parking only between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. I hope this alleviates your concerns.

Again, I appreciate hearing from you. If my office can be of further assistance on this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Dear Executive Kittleman:

As a Howard County and Maryland Resident, I wish to protest the recent closure of the end of Henryton Road in Patapsco Valley State Park to public parking. The circle at the end of the road constitutes the only safe parking for that area of Patapsco Valley State Park. There is no shoulder along which to park up hill from the end of the road. This effectively shuts off access to that portion of the park to most users, aside from long-distance hikers and horseback riders. Those seeking a short stroll in the woods, birds, wildflowers, etc. are now excluded from their state park! I regularly visit the Henryton area of PVSP to search for the elusive Cerulean Warbler, and other forest interior birds. And I enjoy the quiet there, unlike other areas of PVSP which are plagued by railroad noise.

As Executive, I urge you to contact HCPD and seek a modification of the signs at Henryton to No Parking during night hours, and to institute well-timed patrols, in cooperation with Maryland Natural Resources Police, to deter unwanted activities.

As the situation currently stands, legitimate users of the Park are excluded from this peaceful and beautiful portion of PVSP
