A buddy of mine suggested folks might like to know there was a hatch year F Belted Kingfisher hanging out at McBean Waterfowl Pond. It was there on Monday after the garden was closed and right before the storm.
Heard it doing a less harsh, quieter version of the rattle. Then, oddly, it was perched in the lower, thin branches of a cypress, so sort of tucked up in it, next to the pond (vs the typical open bare branch perch). Then it flew to a rock out in the open at the pond's edge and landed fairly close to some people sitting on the grass. Just... weird. Flew off towards Stow. Single birds have been rattling all summer around the ponds in the park.
