Subject: [sbcobirding] Lake Los Carneros
This evening there was a nice flock of birds feeding in the eucs at the NE corner of the lake: 8-10 Wilson’s Warblers, 1 Nashville Warbler, and 4-6 Western Tanagers. 1 Sora was seen from the wooden bridge, but no Virginia Rails. Of interest was a kettle of 6 Great Blue Herons circling high over the lake then drifting out of sight. Also, 2 adult White-tailed Kites were making a vocalization I hadn’t heard before: a short, sharp whistle followed by a long gutteral rattle. At one point, the 2 birds flew in tandem and attempted what looked like a mid-air copulation.
