All change today at Rodeo Lagoon (Marin Headlands), with plenty of new migrants in this morning including 5 species of warblers (versus yesterday's 1).
Highlight was a showy adult female American Redstart performing and fanning in the 'south willows' - the willows midway along Lagoon Trail on the south side of the main lagoon. Migrant highlights from this morning's circuit below before the heat became stifling and just before the beach day trippers arrived en mass!
6 Northern Pintail - flew in the main lagoon for 20 minutes before leaving high to the south and over the Headlands. 1 Red-throated Loon - on the ocean off Rodeo Beach (breeding plumage) 65 Double-crested Cormorants flew over high SE in several flocks - migrants? 1 Spotted Sandpiper - presumably yesterday's bird still present 1 Greater Yellowlegs - western shore but didn't stay long 1 Eurasian Collared Dove - first for some months 61+ Vaux's Swift flew over SE, some wheeling down to drink at the main lagoon (Hawk Hill should have a good count of this species today) 1 White-throated Swift 2 Western Flycatchers Small numbers of Northern Rough-winged and Barn Swallows going through S 1 House Wren 5+ Cedar Waxwing 2 Swainson's Thrush 3 Orange-crowned Warbler (including a gray-headed one) 1 American Redstart - the aforementioned adult female 6 Wilson's Warbler 1 Townsend's Warbler 15+ Common Yellowthroat 1 Savannah Sparrow 7 Tricolored Blackbird - flyovers
