The 10 Hudsonian Godwits found by Ezra and Theo Staengl this afternoon at the pond on Oakwood drive in Bridgewater Rockingham County have flown off. It was an incredible find by two birders from the Blue Ridge Young Birders Club who were birding the local spots in Rockingham county. I checked the Gold book by Brinkley and Rottenborn and Clair Mellinger's book "Birds of Rockingham County and neither reference had any records for Hudsonian Godwit in Rockingham County. So as far as I can tell these were a county record! Other shorebirds were present but many were only superficially observed... but about 5-7 Lesser Yellowlegs, 1 Greater Yellowlegs, several Peeps that went unidentified to species. Also an early Green Wing Teal.
