No, not a plumage, but rather an observation. A group of Iowa birders experienced total totality on Monday by traveling to SE Nebraska. Among the many surreal happenings during the event was the behaviour of Turkey Vultures, who began to circle as if coming into an evening roost, which they almost certainly did as total darkness approached. They slowly reappeared as "dawn" ensued. Dozens of swallows were flying over the prairie when we arrived, but it was too dark for 2 minutes and 12 seconds to see if they, too, sought cover during the eclipse. To this non-meteorologist, the abrupt drop in temperature accompanied by gusty winds was enchanting, to say the least.
