Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 10. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
A PLUMBEOUS VIREO was reported during the first week of August at Page
Springs Campground near Malheur NWR. On August 9 a STILT SANDPIPER was at
the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove.
Reports during the week were primarily of the fall shorebird migrations. On
August 7 two AVOCETS and a GOLDEN-PLOVER were at New River south of Bandon.
Smith-Bybee Lakes in North Portland are now being drawn down producing
extensive mud flats that are attracting many waterbirds. On August 9 a SNOWY
EGRET was spotted among the large flock of GREAT EGRETS in the area.
ELEGANT TERNS are now being reported with the many CASPIAN TERNS and BROWN
PELICANS at the mouth of the Columbia River. On August 8 a FRANKLIN'S GULL
was at Tahkenitch Creek south of Florence.
