Another note on Mississippi kites in Jefferson ..... in Harahan and River Ridge , 2 small communities west of New Orleans along river , has also had increasing numbers of kites it seems as there is always 2or 3 soaring above at any moment in any place . We have many nature oaks here and also the river batture . Several years ago Lizette Wroten and I just drove around the areas for about 2 hours and counted at least 58. . These were individual singles or pairs , no migrating flocks . I should take another drive and count . There are a delight to have around !

One had even nested across the street from me, and a young chick was blown from the nest during a storm a few years ago and taken to rehab. I observed many today on Hastings and Glendale, flying very low, and on Hastings, suspect one was feeding nestlings, as it frequently flew into the tree and returned out to hunt again. These birds are absolutely beautiful, and I look forward to seeing them every year. And yes, you can see them frequently on power lines, like doves and pigeons, in the Bissonet area, where I live, as well as along West Esplanade. So glad they have been coming back every year!
