On Sunday, 4 of us birded east Shackleford Banks. Highlights were 2 dark-morph Reddish Egrets, 168 Red Knots, and 9 (probably more) Piping Plovers. The Red Knots (all in one resting flock) were a nice surprise. That's a nice count for Carteret for the fall migration period (actually, for any time of year). The number and location reminds me of the 220 birds that Sam Cooper saw along the nearby ferry route on 1 August 2015.
Yesterday I saw a Northern Waterthrush in the Roosevelt Natural Area on Bogue Banks.
