As usual, I am promoting counting these magnificent long distance flying birds. September 6th is the official DAY but counting can be done a few days earlier, typically starting Labor Day weekend. I have counted with helpful friends for 3 years, doing Hatfield, Tumalo Reservoir and Redmond ponds. I signed up again for Tumalo Res and Hatfield. I am scheduling Wednesday birders to do this project on Sept 6th. Last year, people counted at Summer Lake and found lots of shorebirds. Two years ago, we had Black Swifts while counting at Redmond. Three years ago, we had 13 species of shorebirds. They had more at Summer Lake last year. Just think what the Crooked River Wetlands would contribute to the birds counted in central Oregon.
Check out the website and select a site to count. It is a little different, but basically you need an ebird account for submitting the list, and you sign up for the location using latitude and longitude using the map supplied. Then you just go birding on your day and submit the list with ebird.
