Subject: Mississippi Kite/Bald Male Cardinal
I was driving on the Charleston Air Force Base this morning and had the pleasure of seeing a kite soaring overhead.  Base security guarantees that the extensive wooded areas are bird and animal sanctuaries.  Seeing hawks is common.

Cardinals are ubiquitous in the Carolinas. This season I'm seeing an unusual male cardinal.  Its red body and orange beak are unmistakably cardinal, but its head is dark gray to black with no crest.  Is this a significant anomaly or some rare but uncommon deviation?
