Subject: [CT Birds] Least Bitterns - North Haven
Observed a pair of Least Bitterns feeding along the opposite bank at the beginning of the Tidal Marsh Trail (behind Target). The female appeared first at 6:00am working the bank and at one point a Great Egret took a poke at her. The male appeared about 6:20am and worked the bank about 100 ft away - never getting much closer to the female. At about 7, the male flew off over the marsh and a couple of minutes later, the female left in the same flight path. They both seemed to have a successful morning of fishing.
A grunting Clapper Rail made a brief appearance as well.
