Smith and Bybee Lakes in North Portland is beginning its annual fall extravaganza. Most of the action was on Bybee Lake where there were 60 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS and most of the 137 GREAT EGRETS. Also on Bybee were about 50 peeps in several groups flying around (most too distant to ID to species), 15 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and 2 CASPIAN TERNS flying around and diving for food.
Smith Lake has lots of tall grass obstructing the view, but the area near the canoe launch site is clear and there were 2 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS there.
