I hope this encourages people to wait near the waterfall and watch the bird foraging instead of going up to the nest area.

We should be protecting the nest area by AVOIDING it.

Pinery Canyon STRE stakeout location

I parked at 5:15am, reached the nest area at 5:50am and stayed there until 11:00am.

At that time I dropped back down canyon to the waterfall (on the down canyon

side of the burn area). I was rewarded at 11:10am when the Slate-throated Redstart

appeared and stuck around until 11:45am. The bird foraged high in the small stand

of Alligator Junipers at that location and didn’t stay still for a second. I shot almost

700 images and barely managed one keeper. One is all it takes.
