In just a little more than one week, you will have an opportunity to bird with like-minded folks in southeastern Nebraska. The Nebraska Ornithologists' Union is holding its annual meeting/birding bonanza in Auburn (Nemaha County). Six excellent birders plan to lead field trips and we have two interesting presentations scheduled. The event starts Friday evening, May 19 and concludes whenever you want to stop birding on Sunday. See this web site for more: http://www.noubirds.org/Meetings/Next.aspx
Field trip leaders are Joe Gubanyi, Joel Jorgensen, Clem Klaphake, Justin Rink, Shari Schwartz and Ross Silcock. Field trip destinations to area hot spots include Indian Cave State Park, Verdon Lake, Kirkman's Cove, Peru Bottoms. The leaders are in the process of scouting other hot spots. There is also one night time trip to listen for Chuck-wills-widow, Whip-poor-will, Barred Owl and other nocturnal birds. In addition to these organized trips, there will be opportunities to hook-up with other birders and do your own trip. If you enjoy county listing, this will be a great time to add to your county totals in Nemaha, Johnson, Pawnee, Richardson Counties.
Friday evening, May 19, Kevin Holliday will speak with us about management of Indian Cave State Park. He is the superintendent of the park. Saturday evening, May 20, Joe Gubanyi is our featured speaker. He will talk with us about his American Kestrel nesting project.
