This morning about 9:10 there were two Red-throated Loons east of the pier at Goleta Beach and not terribly far out. One was in breeding plumage. About 4:00 PM only the non-breeding bird remained but there was also a female Red-breasted Merganser in the same general area, along with a large and dispersed flock of Western Grebes (could have been some Clark's mixed in). Farther out, there were perhaps 30 Surf Scoters. An Osprey has been in this general area on about 1/4 of my visits over the past 2 weeks.
