Was hiking a T-C gameland loop when I flushed a pair of Whippoorwills off the side of a maintenance road beyond a gate on Spencer Ridge. They each gave a couple of calls after flushing and didn't appear to fly too far off into the brush. Perhaps a nesting pair? I didn't do anything more than lean over after stopping in my tracks for fear of potentially getting close enough to leave a scent trail that a predator might use to find the nest. Sure be nice if they were nesting.
