Subject: 3 Dunlin, 12 Caspian T, 1 Va Rail, Ro.R.Lk
Tuesday 11 April Roanoke Rapids Lake, Vultare arm, water very high (don't know how to find record of lake level), by motor boat, testing granddaughter in kayak. 5 to 8 PM. Dunlin and Caspian Terns on old piers of railroad, plus one Bonaparte's Gull, 1 Ring-billed Gull (6 earlier went north).

Virginia Rail (seen only by son, guess by size) flushed from a point of marsh on way back. No rails heard, I guess this lake's marshes are too often flooded to allow breeding by rails--maybe Least Bittern, but then again, too low water for them at times.

Usual stuff, maybe 30 Tree Swallows flocking to roost in marsh, some 40 Redwings to roost, besides singing. White-e Vireo, Yellowthroats.

No raptors, no ducks except one Woody.
