Subject: [texbirds] Cassin's Sparrow - nifty yardbird - in Lubbock
Greetings All:
I live in sort of urban Lubbock and for the last three days have played
host to a Cassin's Sparrow. The species is not unusual for the region but
is pretty unusual for this habitat - a smallish yard in an oldish
neighborhood given over to lawns and pecan trees and such. For the last
two years I have let spring grasses get tall enough in the back yard to go
to seed and this bird is just loving it. I imagine it will soon move into
something closer to breeding habitat but ... for now ... it is fun having
this odd, little yardbird visiting the platform feeders with the doves ...
and finches ... and weaver finches.
