A small but hearty group of birders braved the drizzle and fog at Pittock Mansion this morning for the season's first Morning Birdsong Walk. We visited various micro-habitats known for owls, woodpeckers, warblers, etc. in anticipation of more birds and better weather.
Today's highlights: Red-breasted Sapsucker and Downy Woodpecker
Additional birds seen and/or heard today: Band-tailed Pigeon, Northern Flicker, Pacific Wren, Spotted Towhee, a flock of Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Dark-eyed Junco, American Robin, American Crow, Anna's Hummingbird, Song Sparrow.
Join us for the continuing series of Morning Birdsong Walks at Pittock Mansion in April and May, sponsored by Portland Audubon and led by Wink Gross. Meet at the Pittock Mansion parking lot at 7am on Thursdays. The walks go on to about 9am but you are free to leave whenever you need. No registration (or money) required.
Good birding, Diana Byrne (substitute bird walk leader)
