This morning a surprise visitor showed up in the yard; A Pine Warbler landed in a Sweet Betsy shrub and jumped to the feeder to eat some suet! Never seen that before. The bird visited the feeder several times throughout the day. Very nice indeed. Several phots can be found at: http://ebird.org/ebird/va/view/checklist/S35656959.
Purple Finches (3) are still present. For most of the winter we had at least 1-2 birds hanging out, but did not see them daily.
Eastern Phoebes and Chipping Sparrows are back and were singing all day long.
Almost daily now, a Bard Eagle sored over. There must be a nest nearby, but with so much private land, this is going to be hard to find.
All together 28 species were recorded today. An interesting mixture of winter birds an dearly migrants.
