Subject: [CT Birds] Steep Rock Preserve - Washington, CT
Took a late Sunday (April 2) morning walk in the Steep Rock Preserve, the section on the Shepaug River to southwest of Washington Depot, CT. Had at least two Eastern Phoebes. The first phoebe was at the bridge crossing the Shepaug River by the riding ring parking lot. Get phoebes here every year. The second phoebe was on the old railroad bed trail going along the Shepaug River on the wet side of the river. There was also Red-shouldered Hawk flying over the riding ring parking lot. Nice to see the Shepaug River full and running fast for a change. Expect for a pair of Mallards no other waterfowl spotted in the Shepaug River.
