This would be extremely early for a hummingbird to appear in Illinois, even if it had been seen in the extreme southern tip of the state. Bohlen's Birds of Illinois lists April 11th as the earliest ever record for hummingbird in Illinois. Though there possibly has been an earlier record since that book was published, it would likely only be a day or a few days earlier. Early arrival dates are generally broken by a day or few days... but almost never by close to a month.
