A pair of ospreys have bred successfully on a utility pole on the banks of Wharf Creek for the last 9 years. They returned this weekend to find that the power company had constructed a new platform nearby and placed a rounded baffle on top of the pole where they'd been nesting. For three days, now, they have been industriously bringing sticks to rebuild their nest. The sticks slide off, though a few are now lodged on the wires themselves. The ospreys are still trying.
