Subject: [NHBirds] Sewalls Falls - Barrow's and Common Goldeneyes, a Possible Hybrid, a Bufflehead and more
Walking along Merrimack River south of Sewalls Falls yesterday afternoon, I
was able to observe and get photos of a large flock (30-40) of Common
Goldeneyes that also included among them 1 Bufflehead, at least 1 pair of
Barrow's Goldeneyes (drake and hen), and one possible Barrow's x Common
Goldeneye Hybrid drake (darker purple head and flatter head contour of a
Barrow's and white patch on the face that is intermediate between the oval
of a Common and crescent of a Barrow's, but lacking the black spur on the
shoulder of a Barrow's). If interested I can send a photo.

Further upstream, a pair of Common Mergansers were fishing and sunning
themselves on the river rocks, and a pair of Ring-necked Ducks were making
their way upstream close to shore.
