-a Green heron was perched on the little tree above the Bittern channel- no bittern seen
-the Eurasian teal (or common teal) was seen from the dirt path along Terminal Blvd for a few moments along with other green wing teals
-two Wilson snipes were seen at the previously reported location-this time they were a little bit more in the open before they flew into the pickle weed to hide
-a Common yellowthroat was seen in one of the bushes further down the dirt path toward the main entrance to Charleston Slough
-3 male and at least 2 female Bufflehead were seen in the pond closest to the restroom outside the preserve fence
-two Common gallinules were heard in the no name pond further along the entrance road. On 3-12-2017 two gallinules were seen at the same time with spiffy breeding colored bills. Two others were heard at different locations from the ones seen; it is possible that the seen ones were the same as the heard ones, .or maybe there were more than two. Vocalization was quite vigorous.
On Shoreline Lake there very few Eared grebes left. The one male has much better developed golden ears compared to a week ago.
