Subject: [AZNMbirds] SEAZ: Tubac Hawk Watch 3/16/17

Ron Morriss Park, Tubac, AZ March 16, 2017
8:00am - 4:00 pm

Recent data suggests that most birders prefer to watch raptors on Tuesdays and Thursdays as the park was nearly SRO again today. My one quick
crowd count was 90 people and 43 vehicles.

The first Zone-tailed Hawk was up at 7:56, the first Black Hawk at 8:51.

The Black Hawks passed slowly today with many flying over their fans in the park low enough that both photographers and birders were all smiles.

A Zone-tailed Hawk making a low pass overhead was unsatisfied with the crowd’s “oohs” and “ahs” and tried to improve his ratings by making a dive into the trees on the far side of the west field and then showing off his capture over the north edge of the park.

Afternoon Black Hawks were very high. The last flew over at 3:15.

Gray Hawks? What Gray Hawks?

Common Black Hawk 21
Zone-tailed Hawk 5
Sharp-shinned Hawk 1
Turkey Vulture 133
Red-tailed Hawk 13
Golden Eagle 2
Cooper’s Hawk 2
Swainson’s Hawk 1
