I spent the morning down at Las Cienegas/Empire Ranch yesterday. Plenty of
birds, but the only real oddity was two Yellow Warblers in the cottonwood
gallery just "upstream" from the wet part of Empire Gulch. This seems early
to me...

The patch of vincas at the start of the wet area is blooming and was
covered in butterflies (mostly Pipevine Swallowtails) -- really spectacular.

Other birds included a pair of very vocal (for 9:30 a.m.) Great Horned
Owls; a single singing Cassin's Sparrow (also seems early) among many
Vesper, Savannah, Chipping, and a few Lincoln's; and many woodpeckers
(Gila, Ladder-backed, Flicker). Few raptors. Complete list will be on
eBird later today.
