Subject: Slate Creek Wetlands, Sumner Co.
Gene Young and I surveyed the wetlands yesterday afternoon. 1000s of ducks
present, mostly dabblers. Blue-winged Teal have arrived in numbers.
Shorebirds numbers are increasing with 133 Killdeer present, 11 Greater
Yellowlegs, 4 Least Sandpipers, 2 Pectoral Sandpipers, 14 Long-billed
Dowitchers, 28 Wilson's Snipe. The best viewing presently of shorebirds is
on the state land just east of the tower. If conditions persist, it could be
an awesome shorebird year. Most areas of the wetlands have too much water
for shorebirds. The total list can be seen on eBird.
