Subject: Red-shouldered Hawk
On Tuesday, 3 Red-shouldered Hawks put on a great display for people
attending a Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner at one of the local churches in
Winfield. Apparently, the three were having a territorial dispute right over
the church with much screaming at each other. Normally, people pay no
attention to such things but these birds were so vocal that people were
looking up to see what the fuss was all about. There were great aerial
displays and they eventually all headed south over the city. This
populations of this hawk have expanded over the state in the past few years.
Normally a woodland bird, they have been found as far SW as Elkhart, Morton
Co. with populations building in-between.
