Subject: Slaty-backed Gull refound at Lake View Landfill, Erie Co., Pa.
I spotted the SBGU among about 1500 Ring-billed Gulls and a dozen Herring Gulls in the casino parking lot in Summit Twp. Erie Co., Pa. at 12:45 PM. It immediately took off when I stopped the car, even though all the other gulls remained on the ground. It flew directly away from me as before, but then when it was out about 1/2 mile out it started to circle. I could clearly see the "string of pearls" on the underside of the primaries. I could also see the grayish inner primaries contrasting with the outer black primaries. I was able to obtain a few decent shots of the underwings. After a couple of minutes it flew off towards Lake Erie.
