Joel Strong and I birded the western portion of Niagara County along the Lake Ontario Plain today and found some interesting waterfowl as well as a couple early shorebird species. Highlights included 11 AMERICAN WIGEON, 10 NORTHERN PINTAIL, 2 NORTHERN SHOVELER, 3 GADWALL, and a blue morph SNOW GOOSE at Modern Disposal Wetland along Porter-Center Road. About a 1/2 mile north from there was an early LESSER YELLOWLEGS. On the northern side of Balmer Rd., between Dickersonville Rd. and Ransomville Rd., were 11 more SNOW GEESE (including 6 blue morphs) and 2 KILLDEER as well as more NORTHERN PINTAIL and AMERICAN WIGEON. Around the corner on Ransomville Rd, between Braley Rd. and Youngstown Rd. was a large flock of 81 TUNDRA SWANS along with 3 more KILLDEER and some NORTHERN PINTAIL.
