Subject: [MDBirding] Poplar Island 2/17/2017
Highlights from Friday's census included 8 SHORT-EARED OWLS, consisting of a group of 7 birds and 1 solo bird elsewhere; 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS; and two small groups of overwintering Yellow-rumped Warblers.

Offshore waterfowl counts were low due to inaccessibility around the north and west sides of the island. Some species, such as White-winged Scoter and Red-breasted Merganser, were almost certainly present offshore but were not detected by the census as a result.
