Went chasing unusual winter birds at Cameron yesterday. Didn't have much luck. The "American Golden-Plover" at Holly Beach turned out to be a Black-bellied Plover with a strong eyebrow. But, did manage a male Painted Bunting at Peveto Woods AND found an Osprey using the Osprey nesting platform that Dave Patton erected. Maybe it will nest? Jumped a Barn Owl twice in the woods. I've pasted in the ebird report below.
It was hard to find waterfowl. Had only two flocks of geese - one on east side of Fruge Road near Pine Pasture road and another on the east side of LA 99 just north of its junction with LA 14. The biggest concentration of ducks was roughly 250 Mallards in a flooded fallow rice field on the west side of LA 99 just north of the goose flock.
Hard to find new year birds before spring migration when one approaches 200.
