2/17/17--Kirtland's Warbler, Miami-Dade County, Bill Baggs Cape Florida
SP. Observer: M. Ob. Directions: From I-95 south of downtown Miami,
take Rickenbacker Causeway (toll) and drive ~7 mi to park (fee; open 8
a.m., closed at sunset). Drive south and turn right (west) on No Name
Harbor Rd. Continue to harbor and park in lot. Take the dirt Nature
Trail along the north border of the harbor. After ~.1 miles there will
be a dirt trail with a "Nature Trail" sign to the right (northeast).
There is a pink flag at this spot. Take this trail .61 miles around
the edge of the mangrove forest and the "North Overlook" will be seen
where the trail ends. The bird seems to like this area and feeds on
the fruit of the Wild Sage (Lantana). It is confiding and cooperative.
(25N, 40', 49.9", 80W 09', 53.15") . *Note: there is a lot of
traffic on Rickenbacker Cswy due to the Miami Boat Show on Virginia
Key.
