Subject: Re: “AOU” species updates
AR-birders who did my AAST fund raising tours to the neotropics (countries in parenthesis below) should check their new "armchair lifers" due to the recent splits.  For example, I gained 2 species to my life list due to the Southern Beardless Tyrannulet being split into Panama Beardless Tyrannulet (Panama and Costa Rica), Pacific Beardless Tyrannulet (Ecuador), and Venezuelan Beardless Tyrannulet (Trinidad and Tobago).

One of the most iconic birds of southeastern Arizona has been renamed
Painted Redstart is now Painted Whitestart
Indeed it is so in Cornell’s “Birds of the World”.  Ten other Myioborus Redstarts were also renamed
I see that there is at least one Arkansas Record for  Myioborus pictus.
Also a change in genus for

- Winter Wren Troglodytes hiemalis → Nannus hiemalis

And Yellow-breasted Chat is now a blackbird.

FAMILY CHANGES

The monotypic family Icteriidae is lumped into Icteridae (Troupials and Allies). Yellow-breasted Chat Icteria virens moves from its own family into Icteridae, now treated as the most divergent member of that family.

It does occasion hybridize with orioles.

Greetings all,Looks like we have 2 new species in North America. The “AOU” voted to split Marsh Wren into Western and Eastern Marsh Wrens as well Willet into Prairie and Saltmarsh Willets. So where you are and when you’re there will be helpful. “Ebird. Org” then explore, then explore species, has some helpful information on separating the species. Looks like parts of the Great Plains might have both Marsh Wrens for some challenging ID and some birds may not be identifiable to spp.Cheers, Leif at Hector
