Subject: Re: [Tweeters] Bald Eagle nesting behavior
Here on Whidbey I have seen several pairs recently that were sitting near or on established nests. A couple days ago I saw a eagle flying off out of a field with talons full of grass headed toward a known nest site. Definitely territorial activity and nest building going on here in the North sound.

Not really! They could be sitting on eggs by January and are probably doing nest repairs right now. I have seen them ripping dead branches of trees with their talons.

Today I saw both Bald Eagles on their nest at Ridgefield NWR and my friend recently saw one near Steigerwald NWR flying off with a branch toward Reed Island. Isn’t it too early for them to nest? I thought they didn’t mate until March.
