Marv Breece's posting about the M Street Marsh reminded me that I meant to give this warning for those (like me) unfamiliar with the site. I went there last week. It was my first time there. There is a gate across M Street. However, when I arrived, the gate was open and there is no sign saying not to enter. So in I went. When I came out half an hour later, the gate was closed and locked. There is no other exit as far as I can tell. It is very hard to get around the gate. So don't drive in even if the gate is open. I would be interested to know how people who go there regularly, access the site.
