Weather: Early morning thunderstorms. Remaining gloomy and humid with calm winds for the morning with a few more hours of rain in the midday. Finally at 1pm the rain stopped and it became partly sunny for a brief period that brought a beautiful rainbow. It then became overcast again with more rain moving in at the end of the count. The count was only run for two hours (1-3pm).
Raptor Observations: No migrating raptors.
Non-migrants included one Turkey Vulture, a Northern Harrier, a Sharp-shinned Hawk, a Red-shouldered Hawk, two Bald Eagles, and two Red-tails Hawks that were perched together on a distant snag.
Non-raptor Observations: 2 Purple Finches, 30+ Pine Siskins visiting feeders, Yellow-rumped Warbler, no monarchs. https://ebird.org/checklist/S408443277
Predictions: TOMORROW: Sunshine with some cloudy intervals. High 58F. Winds WNW at 10-20mph. Good winds following the passage of a cold front. A good speed to get eagles and red-tails flying. Conditions have been poor for migration for a few days so perhaps raptors will be ready to move. Spotting may be difficult when there aren't many clouds. Expect moderate to good migration.
SUNDAY: Sunny. High near 60F. Winds W at 10-15mph. Expect moderate migration.
MONDAY: Intervals of clouds and sunshine. High around 60F. Winds WNW at 10-20mph. Expect moderate to good migration. ======================================================================== Report submitted by David Brown (<davidebrownpa...>) Ashland Nature Center information may be found at: www.delnature.org
