Long-tailed Duck (Clangula hyemalis) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Nov 04, 2026 07:53 by Tom Edell
- Cayucos Beach, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.9045964&<ll...>,-120.9045964 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S408001698 - Media: 2 Photos
- Comments: "This female type bird stood out from the scoters because of the white sides and mostly white head. I never got a good look at the scapulars, the color or the bill base, or the eye color. I managed some poor photos as the bird was in and out of the swell."
Pacific Golden-Plover (Pluvialis fulva) (2) CONFIRMED
- Reported Nov 02, 2026 11:26 by Tom Edell
- Turri Road Tidal Ponds, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.8218378&<ll...>,-120.8218378 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S407607969 - Media: 4 Photos
- Comments: "Two continuing birds foraging in the pickleweed marsh between the most inland and western Turri Road Tidal Ponds. These plovers were smaller and daintier than the Black-bellied Plover and had gold color on the back and scapular feathers. In the field it was difficult to see the legs well but photos show that they looked long. Both birds showed 2-3 primary tips extending beyond the tertials, but barely beyond the tip of the tail, and they had smaller bills and heads than the nearby BBPL. They showed messy ear spots and dark caps. Overall, these birds were browner than the BBPL. (Photos)"
Red Crossbill (Loxia curvirostra) (9) CONFIRMED
- Reported Nov 04, 2026 08:56 by Tom Edell
- San Simeon SP, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-121.1235286&<ll...>,-121.1235286 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S408001665 - Media: 1 Audio
- Comments: "While checking the creek from the campground bridge over San Simeon Creek I heard Red Crossbills calling as the flew by overhead. I missed the first bird(s), then got a brief poor look at a group of seven that flew past overhead followed by another set of calls overhead from birds I did not see. I had Merlin running in anticipation of hearing these birds and managed to get a poor recording. I have no idea how many birds were involved. It seemed like these birds came from the campground and were heading toward the Washburn Campground."
