Subject: [sbcobirding] Summer Tanager returns to Hale Park
I initially heard this yesterday but I visually confirmed and photographed it today. This would seem to be the same male that has appeared in Hale Park in December of 2025 and December of 2024. Very vocal today, with calls only and no songs. The bird has been active among the eucalyptus trees near Camino Viejo Road, as well as further up the park along the northern border and in a neighboring home's backyard. Photos posted here:

For anyone interested in finding it, be advised the City Fire Department has been clearing brush and non-native plants from Hale Park and may be active when you arrive. Additional noise from traffic and nearby construction may be a factor. I would advise going early in the morning before this activity picks up or on the weekend. Last year the tanager was present in the park for several weeks, so hopefully it will stick around again.
