Hi all--I know Dan King has been reporting Red Crossbills in Carmel Valley since October, but found a new location for a group of at least a dozen very cooperative birds feeding on cone seeds atop tall pines in the Latter Day Saints parking lot at 12701 Torrey Bluff Drive. There were two types of Kip kip calls of different pitches, and the birds hung around for some time, eating, and were only chased off when a noisy dumpster collector truck came to empty out the LDS dumpster. Assume they will be back to their food source soon. The LDS sign at the entrance to the big parking lot says welcome, though I asked permission to bird the parking lot from a security guy parked there.
