Bears are still active during the day as well as at night so putting any feeder out is still risky. I do have an almost perfect solution - hang a wire on a pulley from the roof to high up a tree, or between two trees, high enough they cannot reach the feeders standing fully up. Bears have been photographed hanging from a wire going hand over hand till they reach the feeder, but I reckon that's a low percentage risk. This has worked for me as long as I pull the wire high enough - they quickly get bored of not being able to reach and seldom return. Birds, squirrels and chipmunks take care of any spillage so they don't find any seed on the ground.
