Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] Potential Type 4 Crossbill, Ft Rosecrans
Hi all,

This morning at Ft Rosecrans, I recorded what looks to me in the spectrogram like a Type-4 Red Crossbill. I ran into and birded with Adrian Hinkle, who mentioned hearing likely Type 4s/non-Type 2s in a large flock, leading me to check my recordings afterwards. This one was mixed in with a small flock of about half a dozen more expected Type 2s.

Audio on the checklist (at least 4 V-shaped calls on the spectrogram about halfway through), would be grateful for any feedback!

The finch irruption this morning at Rosecrans was really amazing in general - I counted on my end ~95 Red Crossbills in numerous flocks generally southbound, along with a Cassin's Finch, two Purple Finches, and two Pine Siskins, with greatest numbers at the south end of the cemetery. Standard Time is finally good for something!

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://sandiegofieldornithologists.org/san-diego-county-avian-records-database/.
