Observation start time: 08:30:00 Observation end time: 15:30:00 Total observation time: 7 hours
Official Counter: Joe Francis
Observers: David Brown, Frank Rohrbacher, Kent Raymond, Kim Steininger, Lana Glass
Visitors: 16
Weather: Mostly cloudy from a cirrus layer, becoming mostly sunny at the end of the day. Light and variable winds, mostly southwesterly. High in the mid-60s.
Raptor Observations: A slow day overall. A few high streaming migrating Buteos, but largely the raptors were on the horizon. Four migrating Bald Eagles. Three harriers. Six sharpies and three Coops. Six red-shoulders and 3 red-tails. One hunting Merlin. Black Vulture with wing tag "247".
Non-raptor Observations: 75 Canada Geese, Double-crested Cormorant, 4 Common Ravens, 100 Tree Swallows, 6 Purple Finches, 30 Pine Siskins, no monarchs. https://ebird.org/checklist/S407602754
Predictions: TOMORROW: Intervals of clouds and sunshine. High near 70F. Winds SSW at 5-10mph. Similar to today. With the light winds it may take the raptors until late-morning to start flying, but I would expect moderate raptor activity and light to moderate migration.
WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. High 72F. Winds S at 5-10mph. Similar again.
THURSDAY: Morning showers then cloudy. High 72F. Winds SSW at 10-15mph. Overall poor conditions. ======================================================================== Report submitted by David Brown (<davidebrownpa...>) Ashland Nature Center information may be found at: www.delnature.org
