Subject: Would anyone like this book?
I have a copy of a thick book on the birds of Pennsylvania that dates to 1890 — but before you get TOO excited, it’s not exactly in pristine condition. It looks like it was exposed to moisture or even water; the overall book is a little warped and some of the pages have what look like water stains along the edges. Also, it’s missing some pages from the index. But the binding is pretty intact, and so are the color plates, which apparently were adapted from Audubon’s illustrations.

The book is Report on the Birds of Pennsylvania, by Benjamin Harry Warren. It’s an official Pennsylvania state government publication documenting the state of Pennsylvania’s birds at the time. Interestingly, on pages 110-111 it talks about the declining numbers of the Passenger Pigeon throughout the state; this was about 20 years before the bird was declared extinct.

The book belonged to my late uncle, and I don’t remember when he gave it to me, but it’s been kicking around my house for a while and I finally looked it up to see what it is. I’m happy to give it to whoever would appreciate having it.
