Subject: [sd-birds] White-eyed Vireo, Newton Hills SP
This morning I hiked at Newton Hills State Park south of SF, and came across a White-eyed Vireo in the upper campground. It was in some sumac and other shrubby vegetation near the large brush piles south of the park HQ maintenance buildings, with a mix of sparrows and a Winter Wren. I had to get my photos off my camera and look at them when I got home to make sure I wasn't imagining things.
In the horse camp area, there were lots of Yellow-rumped Warblers and Fox Sparrows, a late Gray Catbird, and for the first time at the park, I saw not one but two Pileated Woodpeckers on the C trail. Usually, it seems to be solitary birds observed there.
